Gwen Tawny

Biomechnaical Gait Analyst

Gwen has a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, and works at the University of Manchester as a Research Fellow. She specialises in the clinical assessment of human movement (biomechanics), with a particular interest in the knee. Much of her research has looked at how arthritis and knee replacement impact knee movement and walking patterns. In recent years, she has developed an interest in other injuries of the knee. Alongside her role at the University of Manchester, she works as a Biomechanist for the Northwest Joint Preservation Service, where she assesses the effect of cartilage repair surgery on function and mobility.

Gwen works collaboratively with the team at Cheshire Physioactive to provide gait analysis assessment service and is the academic lead in joint research studies between Manchester University and Cheshire Physioactive.

In her spare time, Gwen enjoys caving, climbing and fell running.
